The Origin

I was first introduced to Airtable when I was looking for a solution to how the bar I worked at housed its recipes. You know, the typical sticky rolodex of drinks that bartenders will flip through when they need a quick recipe to a drink they don't have memorized. Or maybe the bartender is quickly Googling the drink to find a recipe online so they can make the guest's drink.

Either way, it was inefficient and I knew there had to be a better way. I tried apps specifically for creating recipe books and bartending apps in general, but none of them had what I needed. I needed an easy-to-use, quick tool that wasn't bulky, and it needed to be available on mobile. Enter Airtable - the combination database & spreadsheet powerhouse that has since transformed my life.

How It’s Made

I played around a little trying to find the perfect setup and in the end came up with what you see on the right. I used long text fields for the ingredients and instructions and I use multi-selects for tags.

If you want to find a vodka drink, just filter for drinks that have vodka in the tag. If you want drinks with vodka but without pineapple, you can filter for that too. Go ahead and take a look, I've got an interactive model for you to play with just below!
